“The Good Samaritan”

One day a man asked Jesus, “What must I do if I want to live with God after I die?” As Jesus often did, he answered the man with a parable, or story, that would help him understand. The story of the Good Samaritan is just as helpful for us today as it was for the man all of those years ago talking with Jesus.
The story starts with a man, walking down the road alone. The man was robbed and hurt badly, left lying on the side of the road. Three different people walked by him—a priest, a temple helper, and a Samaritan. (In the land where Jesus lived, people didn’t like Samaritans). Which person do you think will help the hurt man? The answer in Jesus’ story may surprise you!
Jesus teaches us to love our neighbors as ourselves. Who are our neighbors? How do we do this? Come to FunDay School this month and share ways that we can be helpers for God.
Our Memory Verse is:
“Love your enemies and be good to everyone who hates you. Ask God to bless anyone who curses you, and pray for everyone who is cruel to you.”
–Luke 6:27-28
What we will learn:
· God wants us to love God, love our neighbors, and love ourselves.
· Those who love God and their neighbors receive eternal life through Jesus Christ.
· We are good neighbors when we show kindness and mercy toward others no matter who they are.
· Disciples of Jesus must listen to his teachings and then go out and live them.
· God’s disciples help others in need without expecting a reward.

Family Time and Prayer:
Read: Luke 10:25-37
Reflection: It’s easy not to help others. It’s easy to make up excuses to what we don’t want to do. What about the phrase, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you?” What does God want us to do as Christians?
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to know your will in all that we do and help us do it. In your name we pray. Amen
